Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healing in which the body’s inherent defence, repair and maintenance systems, are stimulated by means of the selective insertion of fine needles through the skin point.

Acupuncture is useful treatment for many painful conditions, especially muscle, sprains or stains, such as:
- Strained necks
- Frozen shoulder
- Tennis elbow
- Lower back pain
- Sciatica
- Period pain
- Shingles
- Arthritis

Acupuncture is believed to reduce pain by at least two methods. Firstly, it stimulates the release in the brain of chemical substances called endorphins which are the body’s own painkillers. Secondly, stimulating nerves with acupuncture effectively overloads them so that they are less able to carry pain message to the brain.

Other actions of acupuncture can include raising the blood levels of white cells and antibodies that fight infections, as well as to improve the blood circulation in the body.
